Blog Post #6

So far, I have really enjoyed blogging in this class! I think it is a really good way to reflect on what we learned in class throughout the week and to look back on if we want to recall what we have learned so far. While I do think the workload is a little bit much for a simple reflection, I do understand the benefits of blogging in this class. As a future teacher, I think Blogger is a really good resource to use in the classroom (i.e., posting blogs and sharing the url with parents and allowing them to read and respond to your posts).

For the Generative AI assignment, I utilized ChatGPT and prompted it to make me a lesson plan for a Kindergarten Science class. As it gave me responses, I asked follow up questions to make sure I was getting a well rounded lesson that included everything required of it. I did ask for links to websites or songs, but that part did not work; the links were not all real. Next time, I would likely include more descriptive words or instructions in my original prompt in order to avoid a lot of time spent on prompting.

I could definitely see myself using Generative AI in my future teaching practice. Routine tasks such as lesson planning or scheduling would be made much easier by something like ChatGPT, which would save me a lot of time. However, I do worry about the negative implications of AI (overreliance on technology, ethical concerns, etc.). In order to avoid these issues, I would try to limit usage to only when very necessary, definitely not for every single task. To address ethical concerns, I would work to detect bias or incorrect information in responses and stay accountable for what I used AI for. I would not want to give my students or their families wrong information or give them the impression that the work I completed was my own when it was not. I would never use AI for something personal that I planned to send out, only routine tasks that really only affect me and my schedule.

  2. Hello Abigail! I feel the same way about blogging, it is very time consuming but it is also beneficial to help me reflect on what I have learned at the end of the week. I also agree with you that blogs are a great way to communicate with parents as a teacher in the future.
